The Mac Studio, launched in 2022, has become Apple’s top desktop choice for professionals, effectively replacing the Mac Pro in most workflows. Built for demanding tasks, it’s popular for AI and machine learning work thanks to its high unified memory capacity and specialized silicon architecture.

Rumors point to a new generation featuring M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips arriving in 2026. While Apple hasn't officially announced anything, multiple sources suggest a release in the first half of the year, possibly during June’s WWDC, a common launch event for professional Macs.

The production of the M5 Max chip is underway, making its inclusion in the Mac Studio likely for summer 2026. However, ongoing global RAM shortages, driven by AI infrastructure demand, are affecting current models’ availability and prices.

In March 2026, Apple removed the 512GB RAM upgrade option for the M3 Ultra and increased the price of the 256GB model, reflecting rising DRAM costs. Delivery estimates now range from 3 to 12 weeks, with higher-memory configurations often unavailable. This supply chain issue could push the official launch into October, according to recent reports.
