Philips Hue Smart Lights Now React to Live Sports Events in Real-Time
Signify, the company behind Philips Hue, introduces "Sports Live," a feature synchronizing smart lighting with real-time sports data for an immersive viewing experience, just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ever wished your living room could burst into your team's colors the moment they score a goal? Signify, the innovative firm behind Philips Hue smart lights, is making that a reality with its new "Sports Live" feature. This exciting addition connects lighting effects to real-time live sports data, launching just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup kickoff.
The "Sports Live" feature began its rollout in May, with a full release scheduled for this month, June 2026. It's designed to let your smart lights react dynamically to key in-game moments, crafting a truly immersive viewing experience that pulls you deeper into the action.
Sports Live uses live match data to trigger real-time lighting effects for key moments such as goals, red cards and yellow cards, extending the action beyond the screen and into the home.
Imagine the thrill as your room flashes with vibrant colors for a goal, or the sudden shift in ambiance when a red card is issued. Signify emphasizes the ease of setup, noting that "Sports Live" works automatically without the need for specialized hardware or connecting additional services, making it accessible to all users.
Personalization is at the core of this feature. Users can easily select their preferred team and assign specific color-changing lights to the "Sports Live" function. During quieter periods of play, the lighting system intelligently adapts, displaying your favorite team’s color, the leading team’s color, or a warm white when the score is tied, ensuring a consistently engaging atmosphere.
Recognizing the reality of broadcast delays, the feature includes the ability to time lighting effects accordingly, with automatic pause and resume capabilities. This thoughtful detail ensures that your immersive experience remains perfectly synchronized, bringing the stadium's energy right into your home.
This launch is part of a broader push by Signify to enhance the Philips Hue ecosystem. In April, the company introduced "SpatialAware," another immersive lighting feature. They also recently launched an upgraded "Philips Hue Bridge Pro," further expanding the capabilities and smart home integration of their lighting solutions.
As of June 9, 2026, the Philips Hue app for iPhone has been updated to include "Sports Live" for all users. This update also brings a new Bridge group feature to the Home dashboard, consolidating all devices and automations in one place. Users can now create scenes for the entire Bridge and easily hide or reorder groups via the edit option.
To experience this next level of sports viewing, simply download the Philips Hue app from the App Store, select your matches, and designate your room to "feel the excitement!"
