Google revealed a major update for Android Auto during The Android Show event, aiming to transform the in-vehicle experience. The update introduces six key features designed to improve usability and safety.

The new Android Auto interface will be fully redesigned with Material 3, allowing customization and a more modern look across screens.

The most noticeable change is a complete redesign based on Material 3, which enhances aesthetics and adapts to various displays. Users will be able to customize widgets, backgrounds, and animations, making the interface more intuitive and safer to use while driving.

For the first time, Android Auto will support FullHD video at 60 fps, playable on the car screen when parked. This feature provides safe entertainment during waiting times, like parking or rest stops.

Google Maps gets an immersive 3D navigation update, showing buildings, lane information, and traffic signals in real time for easier navigation in city and highway environments.

The compatibility with more apps is expanding, including Zoom for video calls, with more services expected to arrive soon.

Google’s AI assistant Gemini, initially launching in the US, will interpret messages, offer automatic responses, and handle complex tasks like ordering food for pickup from the car.

Audio improvements include spatial sound and Dolby Atmos support, delivering a more immersive listening experience on platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music.

Some features are already rolling out, with most arriving globally by the end of 2026, promising a smarter, safer, and more personalized driving experience.
