Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, "The Odyssey," will run under three hours. Producer Emma Thomas confirmed this detail at CinemaCon 2026. This news offers relief to many viewers, as Nolan's previous blockbuster, "Oppenheimer," famously clocked in at over three hours. The exact final runtime remains under wraps while post-production continues.

The film's length has been a significant talking point among the cinematic community. Homer's saga, the source material, is vast and packed with story beats. Many speculated Nolan would need to cut substantial portions of the epic. However, the director is known for his fast-paced narrative style.

"The Odyssey" is described as a "mythic action epic." It was filmed across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The plot follows Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, portrayed by Matt Damon. He embarks on a challenging journey to return home after years of war.

Trailers have already showcased a stellar cast. Tom Holland appears as Telemachus, Odysseus's son, determined to find his father. Anne Hathaway plays a concerned Penelope, Odysseus's wife. Jon Bernthal, known for his role as "The Punisher," portrays Menelaus, the Greek king of Sparta and Agamemnon's brother.

The released scenes promise a grand adventure. They include Odysseus infiltrating the city of Troy using the legendary Trojan Horse. Viewers also see the Cyclops entering a cave filled with soldiers. Furthermore, the undead are shown rising directly from the ground. This promises an immersive dive into Greek mythology.

Matt Damon shared insights into the demanding filming process. The actor revealed the experience had a "profound" effect on him. "If I look objectively at what was required to do that job, I think it came at just the right time in my life," Damon explained. "I think I would've been miserable 20 years ago trying to do that job. Because you were uncomfortable every day, but I really enjoyed… deeply enjoyed every minute of it."

Damon even had to slim down to his high school weight for the role. "I had a beard like yours for like a year," he told Jason and Travis Kelce on their "New Heights" podcast. "I was in really good shape. I lost a lot of weight. Nolan wanted me lean but strong."

This marks Nolan's 13th film as a director. His filmography includes hits like "Memento," "Inception," "Interstellar," and "The Dark Knight" trilogy. Anticipation for the movie is exceptionally high. A limited number of tickets went on sale last summer, a full year before its official opening.

Nolan is widely celebrated as one of modern cinema's great directors. "The Odyssey" is expected to perform particularly strongly. This follows the breakout success of "Oppenheimer," the Cillian Murphy-led biopic that fueled one half of the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon.
