Charlie Cox Finally Plays Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 After Admitting "Fraud" Feeling
The "Daredevil" actor has immersed himself in the video game where he lent his voice, resolving a situation that had made him uncomfortable for months.

Charlie Cox, the acclaimed actor known for his role in "Daredevil", has finally played "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33". This development follows months of him admitting he felt like a "fraud" for only lending his voice to the character Gustave, without having played the title himself. His initial involvement in the project was minimal, but he has now immersed himself in the game's world.
Cox's participation in the game's development was limited to voice recording. He recorded all his lines in approximately four hours. The full motion capture for the character was performed by a different actor, Maxence Cazorla. This distinction led Cox to publicly express his discomfort.
He admitted feeling like a "total fraud" whenever fans praised his work in the game.
Last June, Cox confessed to feeling like a "total fraud" whenever someone praised his work on the game. The following month, he admitted he still hadn't played it and needed to buy a new console first. "I remember being in the studio and thinking, 'This is beautiful, the visuals are extraordinary,'" Cox commented at the time. He also quipped, "They've come a long way since 'Mario 64', which is probably the last computer game I played."
In November, Cox insisted that any awards he might win for "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" should truly go to Cazorla. "Yes, I'm thrilled for this nomination," Cox acknowledged. "I've said this before and I think it's important to say: there's an amazing French actor, by the name of Maxence Cazorla, who did almost all of the motion capture for that role in that game." Cox was nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2025, but the award went to his co-star, Jennifer English.
Recently, speaking to GamesRadar+, Cox confirmed he finally gave the game a try. "I've since played a bit of it," he said. "Not the whole thing, I haven't completed it." He explored the opening section, met characters, and gathered information. "I'm not very good, because obviously, it's a skill set, but I've played it," he added humbly.
This foray into "Clair Obscur", his first role in the video game realm, has opened new professional avenues for him. Cox revealed he is now working on another video game project. He states he is "much more involved" in this new endeavor, promising a different experience for the audience.
