Remember Milly Alcock's debut as Kara Zor-El at the end of 2025's "Superman"? Confirmation that Supergirl will play a "major part" in the DCU's future and appear in "Man of Tomorrow" (scheduled for release on July 9, 2027) signals a dramatic expansion of the cinematic universe.

While the exact size of her role in "Man of Tomorrow" remains unclear, her presence in the Superman sequel is hardly surprising. Milly Alcock's iteration of Kara Zor-El first appeared at the end of 2025's Superman, highlighting her dynamic with David Corenswet's Clark Kent and giving us a taste of how messy she is.

Milly Alcock's iteration of Kara Zor-El first appeared at the end of 2025's Superman, highlighting her dynamic with David Corenswet's Clark Kent and giving us a taste of how messy she is.

Her solo film, "Supergirl," is set to soar into theaters on June 26, 2026, and takes place after the events of "Superman." This movie, described as a "space fantasy" with a different tone than "Superman," will see her encounter other galactic characters, including the iconic Lobo.

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has described this Kara Zor-El as "a total mess," possessing a much more difficult background than her cousin. She spent her first 14 years on a piece of Krypton, witnessing everyone around her die. This experience, according to Gunn, makes her a "much harsher and more f*cked up Supergirl" than previously portrayed.

The wonderfully chaotic Krypto, Supergirl's dog, will also have a more prominent role. In "Superman," we learned he is her pet, and Clark was merely watching over him. It was revealed that Kara "likes to go and party on other planets, planets with red suns, because of our metabolism, we can’t get drunk on a planet with a yellow sun." Krypto's very life hangs in the balance in the "Supergirl" film.

Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the DCEU, will officially join the DCU as Lobo in the "Supergirl" film. Lobo, an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, was Momoa's favorite character and a role he had always dreamed of playing.

Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem of the Yellow Hills, the main antagonist in the "Supergirl" film, based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s comic book series. Eve Ridley will play Ruthye Marye Knoll, a noble warrior who draws Supergirl into a central conflict.

"Man of Tomorrow" will team Superman with Lex Luthor to stop Brainiac. Production for this sequel began last month. The cast already includes Matthew Lillard (rumored to be Plastic Man), Adria Arjona (reportedly Maxima), and Sinqua Walls, in addition to the returning core cast of James Gunn's "Superman" and Aaron Pierre from the "Lanterns" TV series.

With the "Supergirl" film scheduled for June 26, 2026, and "Man of Tomorrow" for July 9, 2027, the DCU is laying the groundwork for an interconnected narrative that promises to explore the complexities of its galactic heroes and villains.
