NASA’s Voyager 1 is losing power and has a plan to extend its mission
NASA announced that Voyager 1, the most distant human-made object, is running low on power. The agency is working on an innovative plan to keep it operational.

NASA confirmed that Voyager 1, launched in 1977 and now in interstellar space, is experiencing a decline in its energy levels. The spacecraft, traveling over 22 billion kilometers from Earth, has been crucial for studying the solar system and beyond. Its power sources, generated by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator, are gradually depleting.
To address this, the space agency has devised a plan called "far-out" to optimize energy use and extend the spacecraft’s operational life. The strategy involves shutting down non-essential systems and adjusting scientific instruments to conserve power.
This effort highlights the importance of keeping Voyager 1 active, as it continues to send valuable data from interstellar space. Without intervention, the spacecraft could cease functioning in the coming years.
The scientific community remains attentive to the progress of this initiative, which could set a precedent for preserving long-duration space missions. Voyager 1’s story is a testament to human innovation and perseverance in exploring the cosmos.
