Ford Pro Transforms Fleet Management with eSIM and Real-Time Monitoring
Ford's commercial vehicle division integrates a factory-fitted eSIM into its units, providing businesses and vehicle owners with crucial data for proactive and efficient fleet management.

Ford Pro, the brand's commercial vehicle division, is redefining fleet management with a factory-integrated eSIM, offering real-time data and solutions to businesses and vehicle owners. This technology aims to empower companies and owners of these vehicles to manage critical situations and operational needs instantly.
Connectivity in Ford Pro vehicles relies on this eSIM, which comes standard in the Ford Ranger XL Chasis and across the entire Ranger line since 2021. This electronic SIM card ensures that each unit is permanently linked to the cloud, transmitting vital information about its status and operation in real time. It's truly a rolling data hub.
According to Jessica Lamprea, Ford Pro manager in Colombia, this system allows for constant monitoring. “Our entire connectivity center monitors the vehicle's status all the time and, for example, if it detects a fault, it directly contacts the customer,” she explained. This proactive communication is key to preventing larger issues.
The vehicle is capable of generating over 3,000 types of alerts, ranging from battery status, engine failures, tire pressure, to details about the electrical system.
Thanks to this constant communication, the company or those responsible for monitoring can make rapid decisions. This includes everything from scheduling a workshop appointment to determining if the driver can resolve a minor issue, facilitating decision-making in case of any roadside event or during complex operations.
The system is designed to provide instant alerts and reports. Imagine: the vehicle is capable of generating over 3,000 types of alerts, covering everything from battery status and engine failures to tire pressure and electrical system details. This means comprehensive oversight.
Furthermore, the Ford Pro ecosystem allows fleet managers to access a web platform. From there, they can monitor the location, route, mechanical status, and maintenance notifications for each vehicle, no matter where they are. It's like having a bird's-eye view of the entire operation.
The platform also enables scheduling services, receiving preventive notifications, and coordinating after-sales actions. This significantly reduces downtime and allows for anticipating maintenance needs before they become costly emergencies. The collected data can be used to optimize routes, control fuel usage, and improve operational safety.
This technology is a fundamental part of the new Ranger XL Chasis, a work vehicle designed for a variety of tasks, such as adapting stakes, cargo, and ambulances. Its versatility is enhanced by this advanced connectivity.
To achieve this connectivity, the Ranger XL Chasis incorporates a factory-installed modem that enables Over-The-Air (OTA) updates. This ensures that both the multimedia system and the traction and stability controls receive improvements and new functionalities without the need for workshop visits. The SYNC 4 system and the 10-inch touchscreen, along with the 8-inch digital instrument panel, allow the driver to intuitively access all relevant vehicle information. Additionally, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, along with voice commands, facilitate function management while maintaining focus on driving.
Ford Pro connectivity is designed to meet the needs of key industries such as construction, agroindustry, mining, logistics, and specialized services. The ability to monitor fleet operations in real time allows companies to maximize vehicle availability, reduce operating costs, and anticipate mechanical problems before they turn into unscheduled stops.
Lamprea emphasizes the scalability of this system: “this can be one vehicle, a hundred vehicles, five hundred vehicles, we can monitor it from anywhere in the world.” The connectivity administration center in São Paulo coordinates data management and proactive customer contact, strengthening Ford Pro's value proposition as a strategic partner for businesses.
