Attention, gamers! Sony has made a surprising U-turn in its release strategy. After years of opening its studios' doors to PC, the company has decided to revert to exclusivity for its titles on PlayStation. This means games like 'Ghost of Yotei' will not be released on Steam, marking a significant shift in how Sony engages with its player community across different platforms.

Since 2020, we've seen iconic titles such as 'God of War', 'The Last of Us', 'Spider-Man 2', and 'Ghost of Tsushima' arrive on Valve's platform, Steam. This openness was seen as a bold move, expanding the reach of their narrative universes. In fact, just two years ago, Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, pledged to launch live-service games simultaneously on PC and PS5 – a promise that now seems to be a thing of the past.

The decision to limit releases to Sony's console has not been without its rumors and speculation. According to Bloomberg reports, the commercial performance of some recent PlayStation games on PC has not met expectations. Furthermore, there's an internal sentiment within the company arguing that distributing games outside the PlayStation platform could harm the console's image and reduce the incentive to purchase it.

One of the factors reportedly influencing this decision is the upcoming Xbox generation. It's speculated that Microsoft's new console, codenamed Project Helix, will use an enhanced version of Windows and be capable of running PC games natively. The prospect of PlayStation's exclusive titles, like 'God of War' or 'Uncharted', potentially running on competing hardware seems to be a point of contention for some Sony executives.

This reversal also addresses criticisms from some users regarding PC releases. Many players pointed out that Steam versions arrived with considerable delays compared to the console, lacking a clear schedule or visible logic. Added to this is the controversy surrounding the requirement of a PlayStation Network account to play certain PC titles, as seen with 'Helldivers 2', which caused community backlash.

The company had brought a good portion of its most valuable franchises to Steam, such as _God of War_ , _The Last of Us_ , _Spider-Man 2_ , and _Ghost of Tsushima_.

It's likely that Sony won't be the only one reconsidering its multiplatform release strategy. Rumors suggest Microsoft is also re-evaluating its approach to exclusive games, though details remain uncertain. With new leadership at Xbox, the brand aims to revitalize itself and return to its initial core.

This change in direction by Sony raises questions about the future of its external studios and the projects they publish under the PlayStation label, such as 'Tokon' and 'Horizon Hunters Gathering'. Will we see a return to the golden age of PlayStation exclusives, or will this decision mark the beginning of a new era of fierce console competition?
