The Neo Geo AES+ will be officially launched in November, sparking excitement in the retro gaming community. Developed by SNK and Plaion, the new console aims to deliver a faithful experience to the original, without relying on digital emulation. It is a 1:1 replica built with ASIC technology that mimics every detail of the design and internal components.

This approach ensures players can use both original 90s cartridges and modern reprints of iconic titles. The console features low-latency HDMI output for modern TVs, along with the classic AV output for CRT monitors. It also includes wireless connectivity for controllers, though the package comes with a wired Arcade Stick with a 15-pin connector.

Among its features, the Neo Geo AES+ allows configuration adjustments via DIP switches, such as language, overclocking, and display modes. It also offers the option to permanently save high scores using a compatible memory card. Full backward compatibility with original cartridges is maintained, enabling collectors to relive their favorite games on the new device.

Confirmed titles include classics like Metal Slug, The King of Fighters 2002, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Shock Troopers, and Samurai Shodown V. The console can be pre-ordered for $200, with each additional game costing $80. The official release is scheduled for November 12, 2026, with a price that’s reasonable compared to original prices or limited indie runs.

The main technical challenge lies in the use of redesigned ASIC chips, which guarantee absolute fidelity without relying on emulation or reconfigurable systems like FPGA. This ensures an authentic experience, though it also poses risks related to manufacturing errors and flexibility.
