Ninety-seven percent of Americans support NASA’s Artemis program, according to a recent agency survey. This backing remains strong despite the program’s projected $90 billion cost through 2025.

Artemis aims to return humans to the Moon for the first time since 1972. It plans to land the first woman and first person of color on the lunar surface, marking a historic shift in human spaceflight.

The uncrewed Artemis I mission successfully orbited the Moon in 2022. Artemis II will carry astronauts around the Moon, and Artemis III will attempt a crewed landing near the lunar south pole.

One-third of respondents described the program as a "unifying moment" for the United States. This sentiment shows how space exploration can bridge divides during times of national tension.

Key elements of the program include:

  • The Space Launch System (SLS), the most powerful rocket NASA has ever built
  • The Orion spacecraft, designed for deep-space missions
  • The Gateway, a small space station that will orbit the Moon
  • The human landing system, developed with commercial partners like SpaceX

"Ninety-seven percent of Americans support NASA’s Artemis program", a figure that underscores deep public trust in space exploration as a driver of innovation and national purpose.
