Amazon confirms The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 for 2026
The series will return in 2026 after nearly two years, focusing on the height of the Elves and Sauron’s war.

Amazon announced that it will release the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in 2026. The confirmation comes after rumors suggested the series might not return until 2027, ensuring fans will get new episodes before the year's end. Season 3 arrives after a nearly two-year wait since the second season, maintaining a similar gap as the debut season.
While fans wait, the characters will experience a time jump. The series will leap forward several years from Season 2, during the peak of the War of the Elves and Sauron. An official synopsis states that the new season will depict Sauron’s efforts to forge the One Ring to dominate Middle-earth and secure victory in the war.
Back in 2018, Amazon secured the rights for $250 million, committing to five seasons of the show. Despite concerns over high costs and lower viewership in Season 2, the series remains a major success for Prime Video. The platform reported around 170 million viewers worldwide and noted that the show has significantly boosted Prime memberships.
The first teaser for Season 3 showed Elendil training for battle and wielding the legendary sword Narsil, building anticipation among fans. The series continues to be one of Amazon’s most ambitious projects, with a substantial investment and a story that expands Tolkien’s universe further.
